Rara lived in a village. She had a good friend named Lembu. Kalang also wanted to be her friend. But Rara liked Lembu more.

Kalang was very angry. He made Lembu go away. Rara was very sad. She cried and cried. She went to a mountain to be alone.

On the mountain, Rara became very wise. She learned many things. She learned to help people. She also made a magic dagger. Many people knew about her.

Rara called her friends Saro and Sarono. She had a job for them. They would take her magic dagger to Kalang. They would ask him to have a test.

The test was simple. They would put daggers in a tree. The winner makes a leaf fall. If Kalang loses, he walks slowly. He can't look at Rara yet.

Saro and Sarono went to see Kalang. Kalang was proud of his dagger. He agreed to the test. He thought his dagger was the best.

At the tree, Kalang’s dagger did nothing. Rara’s magic dagger made a leaf fall. Kalang had lost. He felt very sorry.

Kalang walked slowly to the mountain. Saro and Sarono walked with him. He walked very slowly. He felt bad. At the top, he bowed to Rara. He did not look up.

“You can look now,” said Rara. Kalang looked up. It was Rara! He was very surprised. “Rara?” he said. “You are here?”

“You were mean to Lembu,” said Rara. “That was not kind.” Kalang felt very bad. “I am sorry,” he said. “I can share my toys.”

“Sharing is good,” said Rara. “But being fair is more important. I will tell the king what you did. He can help us be fair.”

Saro and Sarono now understood. Rara wanted Kalang to learn. Kalang promised to be kind. He promised to be fair. Rara was happy that things were fair. Everyone learned to be good and kind.

Rara Kembang Sore

membuat Adipati Kalang murka sehingga berencana membunuh Pangeran Lembu Peteng.

kau lakukan?” bentak Adipati Kalang.

Pangeran Lembu Peteng balik

”Bukankah Rara Kembang Sore sudah menolakmu, Adipati. Seorang ksatria harus

menerima kekalahan dengan lapang dada,” kata Pangeran Lembu Peteng.

"Apa katamu? Heh, kau mau mengajari Adipati? Berani... beraninya...!” kata Kiai Kasan

"Kurang ajar!” bentak Adipati Kalang sambil mencabut kerisnya.

Kembang Sore. Rara Kembang Sore melarikan diri ke Gunung Cilik. Selepas kepergian

Pangeran Lambu Peteng, Rara Kembang Sore memutuskan menjadi seorang pertapa di

Gunung Cilik.

Setelah sekian lama bertapa, Rara Kembang Sore kemudian mengubah namanya

menjadi Resi Winadi. Seiring waktu, nama Resi Winadi semakin dikenal luas. Resi Winadi

”Tugas apakah gerangan, Resi?”

memandang wajah Resi Winadi sebelum diperintahkan memandang olehnya."

”Ooooohhh.”

"Apakah kalian sanggup?”

"Sanggup, sanggup!”

“Kalau begitu, segeralah kalian berangkat.”

”Kami mohon diri, Resi.”

“Baiklah. Tapi ingat, kalian jangan penah kembali sebelum berhasil membawa Adipati

pusaka Adipati Kalang. Selama mereka menjadi cantriknya, Resi Winadi tidak pemah

menyebut-nyebut atau bercerita tentang Adipati Kalang.

"Kakang, apa ya maksud Resi ingin mengadu kesaktian dengan Adipati?" tanya Sarwo

pada Sarwono.

150

"Entahlah, dik. Aku juga tidak tahu," jawab Sarwono.

"Apakah Kakang tidak merasa aneh?” tanya Sarwo lagi.

"Sudahlah, dik. Kita jalankan saja perintah Resi. Mungkin nanti Resi akan memberi tahu

kita kalau kita sudah kembali. Baiknya kita percepat langkah kita saja, biar lekas sampai,”

kata Sarwono.

”Kau Benar, Kakang.”

”Ampun Tuan Adipati. Hamba Sarwono dan ini adik hamba, Sarwo. Kami dari Gunung

Cilik membawa pesan Resi Winadi.”

"Meskipun aku tidak mengenal Resi Winadi, katakan saja apa pesannya."

"Ampun Tuan Adipati, Resi Winadi ingin mengadu kesaktian pusakanya dengan pusaka

Kanjeng Adipati.”

”Apa? Mengadu kesaktian pusakaku?”

melihat wajah sang Resi.

Setelah jarak mereka begitu dekat, hingga beberapa waktu lamanya Adipati Kalang

terlihat menyembah Resi Winadi. Setelah cukup lama Resi Winadi menyuruh Adipati Kalang

untuk menengadah, melihat wajah sang Resi. Betapa kagetnya Adipati Kalang setelah tahu

“Benar, Adipati. Kau masih ingat aku?”

"Kau...kau masih hidup?”

151

”Kau...kau...apa maksud semua ini?”

"Adipati pikir apa maksudku? Apakah Adipati masih ingat Pangeran Lembu Peteng?”

kata Rara Kembang Sore penuh kemenangan.

”Ya...Adipati dendam Pangeran Lembu Peteng. Aku sedang membayar kematian

Lembu Peteng, kekasihku,"

seperti dulu ia membunuh Lembu Peteng. Kini, nasibnya benar-benar di ujung tanduk. Di

ujung keris dan diujung lidah Rara Kembang Sore.

”Ampun, Rara Kembang Sore. Aku mengaku bersalah,” kata Adipati Kalang sambil

Adipati! Aku akan melaporkanmu pada raja. Biar seluruh rakyat tahu, Sa sebenarnya

dirimu,” kata Rara Kembang Sore dengan marah.

Meskipun Adipati Kalang berlutut dan memohon ampun berkali kali, Rara Kembang

Sore tidak luluh. Sebagai manusia, Rara Kembang Sore memaafkan perbuatan Adipati

Kalang.
